Sounds Objectified

1st exhibition: Owens Art Gallery, Sackville, NB, Canada, October 2011

In this series of works, ordinary objects are reconsidered as historical artifacts. As these objects either reach a state of technological obsolescence or are worn out from use, they are routinely discarded as trash. However, if they are saved from such a destiny and preserved, they will inevitably become cultural artifacts in the future.

The sounds of these objects are recorded during their mode of operation, and these audio recordings are played back on small audio players embedded inside the objects, thus simultaneously preserving a sound-moment-in-time, as well as creating a “new” audio packaging format – a format where the object becomes the package of its own sound.
